I couldn’t make any ink reviews for a while. So I would like to breake the leg with one of the fascinating browns: J. Herbin Lie de Thé. Even though I am not a huge fan of brown inks, this ink stole my heart. I couldn’t resist this ink as a tea addict with its name meaning tea dregs.
Lie de Thé has a color between brown and sephia. It is very nice and shady. I used on white copy paper in order to catch the color, but it looks great on yellow, ivory paper. Flow and lubrication is medium. And it is true that, it is a bit feathering on cheap copy paper.
As you can see from the photo, it has an orange undertone which diverts it from the red undertone browns.
There are a lot of fans of this ink, especially for the great shading quailty of it. And Lie de Thé is famous for shifting its color from one paper to another. And one other good quality is being quite resistent to water.
When I compared with the inks on my hand, I couldn’t find a very close color to Lie de Thé. And this color became one of the essentials of my ink collection.
What is your favorite brown ink?
